چکیده

Precise and detailed knowledge of the dynamic characteristics of structt~res has become increasingly important in recent years. As a consequence, the accuracy of experbnental data, which is often used to validate and update fmite element models, has become extremely i”lporta”t. It has been shown expetientally [II that small changes in ambient temperature can cause distinct variations in the natural frequencies of a lightly damped structure, which in turn may result in significant errors in expainxntal and analytical results. Therefore, a good understanding of the physical driving mechanisms involved is “ecessaly so that adequate stability control measures may be implemented. i This paper presents a” analytical investigation of the variations in natural frequency caused by small changes i” temperature. A” analytical plate dynamic model is developed accounting for the effects of temperature-dependent material properties. Changes in temperature influence Young’s modulus, stmctural dimensions (via thermal expansion), and boundary condition effects. These changes cause variations in the natural frequencies which result in marked changes in stmchlral dynamic response at frequencies near resonance, especially when damping is low. Natural frequencies decrease linearly with increasing temperature over the limited temperature range in this study. A sensitivity analysis indicates that the temperatare-dependence of Young’s modulus is the dominant factor influencing the variations in natural frequency, but boundary condition effects may also be irrpmtmt.

Developing a Feature Extraction of Existing Structures Using an Ambient Vibration Test

The paper aims to extract the dynamic properties of existing structures without utilizing the analytical models. The ambient vibration testing could be used on any type of frame such as concrete, steel and masonry to investigate the structural vulnerability. The method could be the first stage and necessarily for the retrofit process. To achieve this aim, the ambient vibration testing can...

Novelty Detection under Changing Environmental Conditions

The primary objective of novelty detection is to examine a system’s dynamic response to determine if the system significantly deviates from an initial baseline condition. In reality, the system is often subject to changing environmental and operation conditions that affect its dynamic characteristics. Such variations include changes in loading, boundary conditions, temperature, and moisture. Mo...

Effects of environmental and operational variability on structural health monitoring.

Stated in its most basic form, the objective of structural health monitoring is to ascertain if damage is present or not based on measured dynamic or static characteristics of a system to be monitored. In reality, structures are subject to changing environmental and operational conditions that affect measured signals, and these ambient variations of the system can often mask subtle changes in t...

A Study of Dynamic Characteristics of a Multistory Building Using Ambient Vibration Tests (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Dynamic characteristics of a typical multistory building in Iran have been studied in two different stages of building construction, using ambient vibration tests. Finite element models have also been used to determine these characteristics and to verify test results. The results indicated the agreements and also differences between conventional theoretical models and the behaviour of real stru...

Comparison of new optical sensor based on triazene ligand immobilized on PVC and triacetylcellulose membranes for Hg (II) Ion

For spectrophotometric analysis of Hg (II) ions, we have used and compared two membranes preparation methods using different polymer; one is poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and the other is triacetylcellulose (TAC). In the case of TAC membrane, it was treated with a ligand solution (1.166 × 10-3 mole L-1) in ethylenediamine at the ambient temperature for almost 2-5 min. However, in the case of PVC m...
